Hi, can anyone recommend a good solicitor for divorce and child custody matters in the Norwich area please. Thank you.

Hey @Jellybaby12345 I don't have a recommendation but just wanted to add that if you haven't looked at them in the advice now guides linked above there are solicitors by area who help (at a set fee) at different stages. They are of course also practicing privately family lawyers but there are reviews about them you can read too. I used the service and I found the solicitor so helpful and the time spent really beneficial (she was a south east based one though so not on your area). Just another place you could look for recommendations/feedback. Good to check what you should use them for within the guides too x

No. BUT
before you head off to solicitor and frazzle £1000s up the wall, r go to the link above in header to ADVICE NOW
download their guides and read. Then read some more
they will help you understand the process thoroughly, explain fair settlement to you and tell you what you which tasks you should use a solicitor for, which you might want to use one for, and which tasks you do NOT need a solicitor for

solicitors cost £200+ per hour. That’s £3.33 per minute they’re even thinking about your case, answering questions you could get the answer to in a few seconds on the internet etc. use them judiciously and where necessary for specific tasks that need legal input . You will also save a lot of time and stress.

it is possible to divorce with little solicitor input and low bills (around £1500) and quickly (just over 26 weeks), but you need need to start form premise of parking any anger with stbex and working through the process amicably.

ok, if he is abusive then sadly yes, you will require a lot more solicitors help- but you should still arm yourself with knowledge on how it works, and what “fair settlement” is likely to mean for you and stbex before you head off

whilst solicitors will give you a “free” 30 mins, it is a combination of telling you the very basics of these guides you could read for yourself, and a sales pitch. Better to wait till you have found out exactly what tasks yo7 want /need them to do, and go to get your free 30 mins with very specific questions and some understanding of what they can actually do for you

Thank you both for the advice. I will have a look at the guides. But my divorce is acrimonious and I think there’s a possibility it may go to court :(

I hope you manage to find a good solicitor, I am not from that area so can't be of much help there. If not, the other commenters have the right idea - there are lots of resources online you can use. The ones others have suggested + divorce facebook groups are really good for answering questions about what you need. You can also use this resource I used (by yourself or alongside the solicitor you choose if you need them) to help you keep costs down. https://www.iamlip.com/ Its a bunch of free help guides that take you through the entire process, including how to fill out forms. Solicitor fees can be crazy - especially when a lot of the stuff can be done by ourselves so easily. Hope this can help!
