Hi. After 2 years of discussing it he has told me he is leaving. Can anyone recommend any books for 6 and 3 year olds to help them through the process of us separating? And any tips on how to tell them and what to tell them?
Thank you

Ideally you would do this together. However be prepared for the possibility that he has already told the kids. In my view it should be happening but since the initiative seemed to come from him, sounds like it may already have happened.

On the bright side you will find that at school lots of kids are from divorced parents, so although you will have your own feelings to deal with - they will not be alone in this.

Wish you luck. There is light on the other side of the tunnel. My DD is now eighteen and guess getting divorced ranks amongst the best decisions I ever made. Never thought I would say that at the time but it is true!

'You make your parents super happy' is a good picture book for kids. 'The invisible string', isn't specifically about divorce but its about still being connected when you're apart. 'Mum and Dad Glue' is another good picture book.

We, I say we, but XH didn't really say anything, went with the explanation they have in 'you make your parents super happy'. 'Mum and Dad have been disagreeing on lots of things. We've been making each other sad and angry and we've tried to fix things but we can't and we realised we'd just keep making each other sader and angrier while we lived together and eventually it would effect the whole family. We realised we need to live apart, we both love you all very much and you'll get to see both of us lots. That we know this is really sad and big and scary and whatever you feel is ok and we'll help you through it.
