Mortgage at my age 51

Hello,

Has anyone got a mortgage at my age (51) for £100k without it being too much of a drain on disposable income? My divorce is coming to an end and I should be hearing soon about the financial settlement. Eldest at university. Youngest is 15 and planning on university at 18. FH is mortgage free. Stbx hasn't paid a penny in CM. Split 3 years ago.

House I've seen (which will probably have gone by the time this is sorted) is £100k more than what I'll have but is in a nice area and walking distance to my daughter's school (I currently pay £450 a term for a bus pass). It's a lovely house tbh! In an area I've always loved.

Is this achievable at my age on a £45k salary (will go up to £50k next year)? NHS pension. Retire at 67.

I've not done it and am a year younger than you but do have a similar salary and spoke with a broker on Friday and he said a mortgage up to age 70 shouldn't be a problem at all, and I was looking at more than £100k.

If I were you, I'd speak to a broker .

I did this 2 years ago - but when rates were lower & managed to get a 5-year fix at a low rate.

However I bought a flat near my daughters school & would ideally like to move to a house in the future - not sure how realistic that is now.

I'd love to retire at 60 (NHS too but old pension scheme).

A Broker sorted me out with a good deal.

I think it sounds fine and you can always downsize and pay off the mortgage when your DC is older.

Yea it's definitely possible. We got an 18 year joint mortgage when my DH was 52.
Use a broker. Lots are now willing to lend even up to the age of 75

Good idea about seeing a broker. I’ll do that. I suppose the payments would need to come from my pension following retirement - ideally, I want to avoid this but I will see what is available.

Thanks!
