Should I make EXDP py for his child or leave it...

I have 3 dc with exdp. We were together 20 years and he barely worked. He was a useless, abusive, weed smoking waste of space and I am ashamed I put up with him and wasted so much of my life for so long.
I have always worked and I continue to work and raise our three dc.
He has had NO CONTACT at all with them since i asked him to leave in Februry 2019.
He doesnt see them, call them or provide for them in anyway. He told me that would be the case when he left and at the time I was so relieved he was gone I didnt follow it up.

Now 4 years later I am still working and as a single parent I am struggling.
I am so angry he has paid nothing and left me high and dry.
I now only have one child left under 18 ( the other two are at university ) so I know I wouldnt get much but I am really tempted to contact the child maintenance service and make him bloody contribute for the youngest one.

I had a non molestion order granted against him and so he hasnt contacted me at all, its been so peaceful and stress free but I am strugglin financially. He will be furious if I do this and I am slightly worried this will " poke the bear " so to speak but its just not fair !
Also, he isnt working. He just claims PIP for M.E and mental health issues caused by smoking weed so would I even get much anyway ?

Zero point

You will get small change at best

Elledeco · 23/06/2023 16:04

Really ?.... FGS
Hes just had an inheritance come to him according to family as well.
So frustrating...

Might as well. Worst case scenario, you get nothing, which is what you get now. Best case scenario, you get something, which is more than you get now.

I believe you can arrange through CMS that he pays through them rather than direct to you if you are concerned about contacting him or him getting your details. Think they make deductions for this service.

tedtor · 23/06/2023 16:08

Yes do it. It will be taken out of his benefits and he won't have a choice in the matter.

HighlandCowbag · 23/06/2023 16:08

I wouldn't bother, especially if he has no contact. The last thing you want is for him to assume its pay per view, which some people do. I haven't had a penny from ex dp in 17 years. Dd is at uni now so we've managed without his money, and he has pretty much left dd alone, tho rears his head via letter or social media every couple of years but we just ignore him and he crawls back under whatever rock he came from.

Won’t be touched.

I am sorry Op. I wouldn’t bother. Lots of effort for barely enough to cover a sandwich and coffee from sainsbury’s a week

Jazzappledelish · 23/06/2023 16:11

You could go on one the gov calculators and populate the fields as if you were the one paying and insert his financial details

Jazzappledelish · 23/06/2023 16:11

It will make for a depressing calculation I warn you

Elledeco · 23/06/2023 16:18

I just went on the calculater and I would receive nothing.
I cannot believe it.
Ah well. I will have to hold on to the fact that my dc will know I did the best I could alone.
God I hate him and god I was stupid.

Op I imagine you’re worried about the drop in your imminent benefits

But if any of your children will continue to live with you and they work, you could ask for a contribution?

Elledeco · 23/06/2023 16:28

@Jazzappledelish kind of, yes.
Now my eldest are at university I no longer receive CB , Universal credit or single person discount for my council tax. Alongside a £300 pound a month rent increase it has left me reeling financially.

My eldest two both have part time jobs alngside their uni course and I dont help them at all or support them at all, so I dont feel that I can also ask them to contribute to the home as well.
Its so hard !

Why salary are you on? Are you sure no UC?

Jazzappledelish · 23/06/2023 16:30

What

Elledeco · 23/06/2023 16:40

@Jazzappledelish Im entitled to some UC as I rent and have one qualifying child, but it has been going down and down since my elder two passed 18,

Jazzappledelish · 23/06/2023 16:44

Sorry I thought you said you no longer receive it

Elledeco · 12/02/2024 14:48

Just updating this thread as I have been thinking and thinking about it over the last 8 months.
I applied in January last month, and today received a decision letter informing me he does have to pay me. I am to receive the grand sum of....£30 a month..
FGS...
