Just wondering whether they are a good option vs high street solicitor? £179 fixed fee plus £593 for court fee? Is that it?
thanks

You don't need a solicitor generally to submit the divorce application. You can do that yourself online easily enough. You will need one for writing the consent order re finances or if you have a complex situation.

I didn't use them for the paperwork (because my ex was a complete cunt throughout) but their forums were incredibly supportive which meant I didn't need to ask my solicitor a million questions ££££££....

Used them but mainly for the advice forums. I got my clean break agreement through them though. They were good. I just did the divorce myself on line.

I move just popped over to look at the forums and it looks like they haven't been posted on for a long time. What am I missing?

So its worth paying the £179 fixed fee? Im assuming the £593 court fee is actually the divorce application. Im quite happy to do the legwork myself and do all paperwork to keep costs down. Is it easy to do this? What exactly will i need kegal advice for? Financials? Childcare plan?

I did it all myself using the gov website. To get a financial order you have to have a solicitor so I'd just use them for that. Childcare you can arrange yourself as long and it's not acrimonious

No, I don't think so. They don't do anything that you can't do yourself online for that fee. The £593 is the divorce fee which is payable anyway.

I'm hoping to use them for a clean break order, D81, but everything else I've done myself. If you have children I do think it's worth seeing a solicitor first. Both STBExH and I saw solicitors, they both said different things so its been tricky, I feel like Wikivorce are the impartial third party.

I'm a little late to this one but wanted to share another resource you might find useful. I though wikivorce was good like the other commenters say but I found the facebook groups on divorce and separation a lot more informative as you can get a lot of information you need very quickly and you feel less alone. I also used something called https://www.iamlip.com/ which basically takes you through the entire process with its free help guides when you don't want to spend or can't afford to have a solicitor (or can use it to cut costs). Try all of these and then also take the advice of other commenters and use free hours with solicitors if you need extra advice - it's 100% possible to do by yourself

Thank you 😊

I did the first part myself and just paid £593 to the court. The first part is surprisingly simple.

I engaged Wikivorce end of March for the final consent order. It cost around £260? + £50 ish for the court fee. Wikivorce sub contracted the work to another firm of solicitors. All details were pre-negotiated and settled between me and ex-partner and we'd already completed the D81 form.

Its still ongoing from bloody March!😭It takes 10 working days for any query to be answered. I've had to contact them several times to enquire if there's been any progress and each time I get a reply exactly 10 working days later to say it's being looked into. There's been no extra discussions, no re-negotiations. It's ridiculously laborious and slow. Even now, "its still being looked into".

I wish I'd gone to my own chosen solicitor and paid double because going through Wikivorce's choice has been so frustrating and painful. If you do choose them, submit your papers as soon as you possibly can and expect it to take much longer than the 3-4 months they quote. Honestly, its stressful enough without the waiting nonsense. I'll never understand why they take on so much work when they obviously don't have the capacity to do it. Good luck to you!
