Ex is seeing a solicitor

He just told me he's seeing a solicitor tomorrow. We are in the process of separating and have talked about access and childcare for our two dc. I initially said he could have weekends and he wailed about 50:50 (although god knows where he's going to suddenly find the time to do the day to day childcare!) can anyone tell me what the solicitor is likely to say? We're not married

They will write to you with a proposal. You say you agree or dont. If dont agree you book mediation

Him having every weekend isnt fair. It gives him no free time and doesnt share the relaxed / fun down time with the harder school runs, clubs and homework demands for you.

what happens in holidays? Is that cost of childcare all on you? How do you progress your career?

Yes its not good for the kids either. 50/50 might work? He'd have to sort some of the childcare costs then.

I agree. It's only because we have parented this way for years since he works Mon-fri (often away) and I work weekends. I'd love 50:50, if he steps up it'll be the best thing for the kids

Yes I've always taken Care of the dcs in the school holidays because my main Job is WFH. It's been a mad, lopsided situation for a long time.

You sort of have an opportunity now to see if it works. Say you are open minded to 50/50 but want to see how it works whilst you are still under the same roof.

You will probably need 50/50 or something close to it anyway because weekend work isn't going to pay the bills.
