Ex-DH and I have 3 DC. Youngest is with me almost all the time, the other two are 50/50 between us. This is unlikely to change in the future for various reasons. Should he be paying any maintenance to me for the one I have most of the time? It costs me a lot in reduced earnings, amongst other things, so I'm not looking to just get money for the sake of it. It feels unfair but I am not sure how it works with him having the other two half the time. Many thanks in advance

Yes. If you go to the calculator on gov.uk it asks per child what the living arrangements are.

Thanks for the reply. It just seems to ask if any other children live with him. I'll take another look.

This is actually a trickier question than it looks. Technically you would think you could use the formula for one child but in your situation maybe it wouldn't work out so well for your older children. Could you not perhaps suggest there should be some kind of maintenance paid and agree something privately that works out fairly for all three DCs?

Wouldn't you complete it as only needing a calculation for one child? You won't need to put that any children live with him as I think this would be if he has children from other relationships. Or do it for 3 and put one as 100% with you and the others as half (though this isn't the same as 50/50, weirdly). It gives you the calculation per child at the end so you could ignore the other 2. It's just a guide to give you a starting point. You can do it by working out actual costs, but it can be hard to work out a percentage of housing costs for one person.
