You can't just remove your name from a mortgage - your stbx will need to be able to prove he can afford the repayments. And what about the equity in the home?

Sorry what is stbx
I'm aware I have to pay a fee to have it removed

Stbx = soon to be ex

This might be a useful read, but surely you have equity in the property which you want to get out? Can he afford to buy you out plus the repayments on his own? Or would the property need to be sold to get your money out?

Removing a name from a joint mortgage

The process of removing yourself or someone else from a mortgage is relatively simple and straightforward—as long as everyone is in agreement and wants the same result.

I think the other poster was stating there isn't just a fee to pay. The mortgage company have to agree. When you initially took out the mortgage, the company assessed you both and you are both liable for the payments. You can't just decide not to be liable for it any more. The mortgage company will have to be satisfied that your former husband will be able to pay the mortgage and they no longer need / want you to be liable for it.

Also, is there any equity in the property? Are you sure just giving your soon to be ex husband (STBX) is a fair deal?

Have you seen a lawyer. If not, go see one who will be able to advise further
