Help! My ex is buying me out

My ex is buying me out however I really need to understand the process as I don't trust a word he is saying. He is taking money out my settlement figure to pay for legal fees, conveyancing, land registry, help to buy transfer, equity release etc.
This process was started in 2021 but when I received the paperwork, there was a clause the help to buy loan; if it wasn't accepted or he couldn't afford to take on the house, my name wouldn't be removed from the help to buy loan. At the time I had no confirmation that he had been accepted for a mortgage or any guarantees at all. Rightly, I didn't sign it. We're now a childcare arrangements court order later... I really want to get this wrapped up and sorted but I honestly have no idea on what happens, can anyone help?

I can’t help OP, but the mantra of this forum is the same as always. Get yourself a lawyer.

Wishing you well.

Split fees

You need a solicitor - maybe 2. One to sort out your divorce financials and a second to sort out the sale of the house.

You each pay your own legal fees - he pays land registry and any fees associated with financial stuff / loans for his mortgage. You pay for a solicitor to check he's not pulling a fast one, eg using your settlement money to pay his legal fees

why is he doing equity release - unless he's of retirement age ? Sounds weird

have you had the house valued by estate agents ? Get 3 and take the average. If it's being ongoing since 2019 the house price will probably have changed

Thought Help to buy was for new builds only - I could be wrong on this

Don't sign anything until a solicitor you are paying (and don't tell me you can't afford it - you need to pay for this otherwise you can be shafted from here to kingdom come) - has gone over the paperwork with a fine toothcomb and has explained it to you so you fully understand everything and are happy with the bottom line
