My husband and I are planning to separate. He wants to get a rental then use it as 'space' for each of us. I want a clean break. The house is in his name but I have contributed to half of bills including buying most of the furniture. He earns a lot of money and would easily be able to buy another house. There is 20k borrowed on mortgage that had been planned to convert roofspace. Ideally I would like him to leave so the children don't have to leave their family home and seems the easier option as he is more in a position to buy somewhere else on his salary. I have looked into housing executive but they will only allocate a 2 bedroom as I've two boys but one is 13 and the other 7 and have always had their own rooms. I could afford to keep the house on as i would be eligible for working tax credits. I have a solicitor appointment coming up but I wanted to hear of others experiences in similar situations. Thanks in advance
M

If you're joint tenants on the mortgage the house is 50% yours. That's a basis for a financial settlement.

If you're not, then unless there is some seriously substantial costs you've contributed it gets trickier.

What can you do to increase your income? You can't expect to be funded in the same way.

The 13 year old will have their opinion taken into account. Are you ready if they say they want to be with Dad?

Having a rental for a couple to escape to and rotate in and out of the house is tricky but not unusual.

Careful on your terminology. A clean break is often used as a financial order term to indicate all financial ties are severed.

Why does he have to move out? Unless there's significantly nasty things happening, he's entitled to be there too as it's his house.

Why not sell up and both start again?

Your post is missing alot. Good luck with whatever route you take.
