Podcasts to help navigate this process

DH and I have been married for 21 years. We’re both fed up of each other and he’s threatened to go multiple times in the past 10 years.

We’ve already spoken at the end of the very first lockdown about selling the house, splitting the proceeds and living apart - and it’s come up a couple of times since so I think we’re both on the same wavelength.

Youngest goes off to uni in September and after that there’s no need to continue walking on eggshells and putting up with DH’s blow ups. Once DD goes, I’ll take him at his word and get it done.

My question is - are there any good podcasts you would recommend for how to navigate this process please?

Not podcasts
BUT
go to ADVICE NOW website and download their booklets - they cost £20 for each one ( so one on financial, orders, one on divorce itself etc- read up on each one and decide which you need. I used financial settlement one) but they’re brilliant and really simple.

advice now is a charity run by legal advisors who are trying to demystify the law and legal processes. The guides are developed to minimise amount people need to use solicitors. They very clearly explain the bits you don’t need solicitors for, those you may want to use solicitors for, and those you must use solicitors for.

if you think 1 hour of a solicitor will cost you £200 roughly, £20 is well worth it.

I used the guides. Divorced in just less than 3 months ( I know that’s not possible now since law change in April though), and total costs for both of us including court was £1500 ish.

Mediate site also good with explanations of process
in terms of actual divorce petition- go to the government website…it is actually very good at explaining and you can look and download the various forms you will need to start to gather information togther.

You could follow thefamilylawyer on Instagram. She's got lots of free 'how to' posts on her page.

My advice , fwiw, is to give copy to your stbex as well and get him to understand it too…if you both know process, understand where courts are coming form in terms of their duty to “fair settlement” (contrary to popular belief it doesn5 start at 50:50), you’ll both be more likely to work together with same goal to get it done quickly and at the least stress and argument.
