Does anyone know the process for No Fault coming up?

I have been focused on 6th April 2022 for a long time now, and see it as the best way to divorce without it becoming too acrimonious. But when I try to find out the practicalities of how you go about it, there doesn't seem to be much information. Is it just a case of applying online and telling your partner what's coming?

I’m a legal secretary and work for a divorce solicitor and we haven’t even been told the process yet, but I would imagine that you file for divorce online and the form goes out as usual to your ex, but without you having to rely on anything at all eg behaviour, adultery etc and they still have to acknowledge receipt of the papers. It’s good to see the no fault divorce coming.

Thank you @Justsaying22 it's oddly reassuring that you don't know either! I just want to be prepared to go as soon as I can, I've been waiting so long for this to come round.

Following this on behalf of a friend - seems odd that they haven’t given any kind of guidance about it doesn’t it

Have a look online at the current process for all 3 petitions. It’ll just be a variation on that . It’ll just be a different form but the content will be about the same as these forms for petition are pretty basic. It is worryingly simple, easy and quick to do!
Spend time now working out child care and financial agreements- get all your ducks lined up. Get the form E and D81 filled in based on what you know . Draft out how you see finances and childcare being split. Read up how a court would decide on your financial settlement if it came to that (they use about 10 criteria which you can find through mediate or advice now on line). Be realistic and get your head around that. Work out an “exit” plan- who should move out of family home first, do you need to sell to release assets etc etc.
most stuff you can read on line and don’t need solicitor for. You only need a solicitor if you can’t agree and cost will then start to rack up quickly. Only bits you must use solicitor for is around child care options and drawing up the legal document for your financial consent order if you can go that way- the more information you provide for that in terms of you and spouses agreement in layman’s terms the cheaper it’ll be eg. If the solicitor is just turning your words into legal speak it’ll only be about 3 hours work.
Lots you can do to get ahead of process and be ready. I imagine the site will crash on the day the legislation comes in 🙄🤦‍♀️🤣

When I said have a look on line at current processes for all 3, I meant to say on the government web site . The process is clearly laid out and you can access all the existing forms. Only the period forms themselves will be different for new changes, all the financial disclosure forms won’t change as that has absolutely no bearing on reasons for divorce and is same in all cases.

Petition forms not period forms 🤦‍♀️

Is it pretty easy to do on the Gov.uk site ?

Im wondering if so many people will go for it on 6th April its going to be months if not years before the resultant backlog is cleared?!
