A pension query- any legal eagles about?

Any words of wisdom would be appreciated!
STBXH is 64, in custody facing sentencing for sexual abuse, not allowed direct contact with children or me ever again unless of course our children wish to make contact when they’re older.
His solicitor has said that in order for him to access his NHS pension payments due to start in April, (he can’t access it basically until) I must sign on as beneficiary in the event of his death, with our children as dependents.

Mid-high tension divorce born of the abuse of our daughter, my hackles are up and my trust is in the gutter.
Could there be legal implications to signing on as his beneficiary?

Can't see why you'd have to do that. Surely some people might not have anyone to name as a beneficiary?

I believe ex NHS workers fill out a form NW8P
I just looked online and the form DOES ask them to give details of a spouse children etc. Presumably that is to ensure if the person dies you may get some of the money so I don't really think it is a bad idea. I would fill it in as long as you can keep any confidential issues such as your address from the ex.

The form seems to be this one -

Thank you so much for taking the time to offer advice.
I suppose, to me, it's odd that he'd ask his soon-to-be ex-wife to sign on as beneficiary when he hasn't been too accommodating during our divorce proceedings. He wants to 'help' me while trying to financially bury me. So I can only assume that my signing on as beneficiary benefits him in some way.
