The process

So loan applied for and received
Solicitor found
Solicitor paid deposit and court fees
Forms filled in
Today solicitor sends the divorce petition to ex for signing and this afternoon she submits it to court.

The financial stuff is more tricky. Solicitor has sent the list to ex so he can start gathering his paperwork.
For me it's much easier and I only have debt.

I've been getting the house valued. It's mortgage free and if valued about £110k the solicitor believes she can get it signed over to me comfortably if we leave all his assets alone.

One estate agent went straight in at £150k which is way too high and doesn't take into account what a survey would say and the subsequent reduction in offer. Thank god after a few calls I've found some more realistic estate agents.

Me and ex have argued. He was all mouth last weekend and has since gone quiet. I can only presume he's now spoken with a solicitor because his initial idea was that in 8 years (when youngest is 18) we sell and split house 50/50 and when he gets his pension in 18 years we split it 50/50!

Are there any other assets?

Bonkerz · 17/09/2021 08:22

Half his pension is worth more than share in the house.
I don't want to wait 8 years and even if I did there is no guarantee my kids still won't need support of a roof over their head! I still have the 21 year old at home and the fact my 2 youngest don't want to go to uni seems my kids will need a home for many years to come.
As a self employed person in a very low paid job sector I can't ever see a time I'd be able to get a mortgage but if he signs house to me I could remortgage to pay him a small amount if necessary for a deposit on a new mortgage.

What does your Solicitor say is a probable outcome?

Bonkerz · 17/09/2021 08:41

She's the one who suggested and is pushing for the house. It is a fair clean split leaving him with his savings and pension pot.

Ok so how much are in the savings and how much debt is there?

Bonkerz · 17/09/2021 09:31

My debt £18k all from during marriage as I paid for boiler / cars/ to get gardens done up / holidays etc. He knows this.

He has no debt. Saving of £11k. Pension of £46k

It was always me paying for big stuff. He told me this was not a because he paid for house.
