Child maintenance

I've looked at the .Gov child maintenance calculator and have an idea of the sums involved. But it only seems to take into account one parents income at a time.
Does it make a y difference If the receiving parent has an income 3 times that of the paying parent?

I believe it just goes on the paying parents earnings and it doesn't matter how much the receiving parent does or doesn't earn

No it's doesn't matter how much the receiving parent already earns as the payment is for the cost of the child's upbringing. Parents should both be contributing by the non resident parent paying child maintenance.

None whatsoever.

Each person is expected to support their child according to the best of their ability, according to their means.

It's for the kids. It's not spousal maintenance. Every person should support their child.

Estherpologist · 29/07/2021 09:53

That makes sense.

In many parts of the world it matters -- often the system works out the cost of children then fairly allocates it between parents according to their incomes. The mid-1990s CSA did some of that.

But in the UK system now, it doesn't matter if your ex-partner is JK Rowling or on benefits, the 'paying parent' pays the same.

Does anyone know when payments owed on the 25th wil go in
