Did you approach the loan co directly?, or did your solicitor recommend them? Did you take a loan or refuse? Did/does it help or harm?

I represented myself. Cost nothing although I did hire a barrister for the day in court. Came out with 50% of the assets instead of the 30% my ex wanted me to have.

I think what defines if it helps or hurt is how much you are fighting for.

If you are fighting for justice but it is going to cost you £10,000s to get about the same amount, it is not worth it.

If there is a substantial risk to lose, better leave it at that than coming out empty handed with a big loan to pay back.

Having said that, I fought back and didn’t get as much as it was fair BUT what I got was enough to set DS and I in a good footing to start our new life. What I am not sure was worth it was getting that through the horrible emotional cost DS and I went and continue to go through as a result of the separation of assets battle.

Why do you believe there might be a claim for compensation? Has there already been a successful claim via your firm?

Orrace · 19/07/2022 15:41

And if so was this a Novitas, Integro, Detach, Ratesetter or Level?

Anyone else think this lawyering lark got a bit too easy when they didn't have to chase ambulances anymore?

Times must be tough at Penningtons Manches Cooper if you've had to start hawking for business on internet forums 😂

Let's be honest, this is not a normal way of generating business for a top 50 law firm is it?

Orrace · 19/07/2022 16:05

Since Novitas went t-ts up they've found the grifts got harder... Not heard of any clients sobbing into their pillows at their demise though!

And what about Axiom!? Flipping heck the was fraud central for the solicitors! As we are now learning.... 😂

Well Mumsnet deleted it, I'm guessing that Pennington's panicked and asked them to.... but never fear.. I have the screenshot and can post on Twitter!

Chin chin!

Oh leave her alone, she's probably already in the shit!

Poor little Pennington's. Looking at their website, they have a massive Family Law Department too.....and one of their Senior Partners has written at length on how wonderful litigation funding is in divorce... So I'm going to make a wild guess they were using this funding too. What that partner fails to mention is that Novitas have been found by the Financial Ombudsman to have engaged in unfair, unaffordable business practises. And frankly, touting for business by a firm that's likely up to its neck in this area, is pretty upsetting.

I didn't post to attract a bunch of ambulance chasers to target anyone who replied.
