Finding weekends hard

Recently separated and getting used to splitting care of the kids. I feel sad and strange when they’re not with me, even if it’s good to have a break. This weekend their Dad is taking them for a night away. I feel I should be making the most of it with some plans but am doing nothing bar seeing a friend Sat daytime. Most of my friends are married with kids and I kind of don’t want to take them away from family time or their partners at weekends. But would so love to have something to do Saturday night!
Meanwhile my ex is dating someone new, announced days after he moved out.
I’m on an online dating app, but 2 quite bad dates so far… Any tips?

Try to enjoy your time alone for 'me' time - nice candle, chocolate, long bath, watch a movie or box set that you can watch without pressing pause every two minutes because your kids have just walked in the room! I empathise, as I'm more than two years in to a separation and it can be incredibly difficult and sad sometimes to be on your own. Like you most of my friends are in relationships. I've started to strike out on my own and join meet up groups - you will find there are a lot of fun, interesting people in the same situation as yourself, it's just a matter of pushing yourself to get out there and meet them.

Enjoy it , my ex never takes the kids so I don’t get a break ever, trust me I would kill for one 😕 it might feel bad now but I think you will eventually enjoy the break, how long ago was the break up? You don’t hVe to rush out dating already sounds pretty fresh?

It's good to work out 'who you are' after a relationship break up. What do 'you' want to do, what environments do you enjoy being in? What new skills and hobbies do you want to learn? There's so many ways to grow and a new life to grow into that will set you up for a fulfilled and positive future, being on your own can really push you into that and doing it for yourself.

I had this but I can tell you it does get better! You will soon love being on your own for a night and plan stuff when they are with their dad. Get out for a walk go for a coffee tidy out your wardrobe all the things you can't do with kids interrupting all the time!
