If I got divorced and was awarded half of his private pension, would I be able to take it at age 55 years like he can ?

I'm curious how this works, too!

I thought you would be awarded half the value in settlement but not the actual income because he hasn't yet retired etc.

You would need to set up your own pension from the funds transferred from his and when you can take it would be down to that policy ( and current legislation)

Thanks.
I can’t see any pension letting you take it at 55 these days !

@FippertyGibbett - you can take a dc pension at 55 but this is due to be moved shortly for people below a certain age.

You will be able to draw benefits from age 55, unless you are a lot younger than that now - the earliest retirment age increases to 57 from 2028.

What’s a ‘dc’ pension ?
I’m 49.

I’m 49, so could I claim from 55 from all private pensions ?

@FippertyGibbett should be able to claim dc pensions at 55 if you are 49 but check the scheme rules.

OP - dc is defined contribution pension - like many these days (different to defined benefit which is a final/average salary pension)
