What do I do?

This may sound a bit silly but my husband & I have actually managed to separate amicably.

It has been 2 years now since we agreed to separate. We have sorted out maintenance & the childcare without any problems.

Also, recently we have agreed how to divide our assets (60/40 split in my favour). So now we just need it all legalise & the divorce to happen.

How do we do this without spending a fortune on solicitors please? Can we do it ourselves? Thanks In advance for any tips

Hi

Yes. Apply for divorce online yourself. All online and you can't really get it wrong.

Once you've got the nisi you may wish to get a consent order simply creating a clean break ie so neither of you can claim from the other in future.

I had my consent order drafted by my solicitor and we printed and signed it together.

That has to be processed before you apply for the absolute.

It can be simple. Feel free to Pm if I can help more.

One question would be whether you've actually split the money yet ?? If not it might be more complex.

If amicable I'd do it first and then the rest is more simple.

Thank you I will have a google then for online divorce. Can we use just one solicitor for a consent order as we agree? @bigarsebelinda

Money wise - I am getting the house mortgage free but I will need to get his name of the deeds somehow. He is keeping his pensions & any savings we had. I gave him it all when we separated as I wasn’t allow to claim universal credit whilst having savings. He is using that as a deposit for his house & he is a high earner so can afford a mortgage on a new place.

Yes we used same solicitor. He was happy to accept that.

When googling use the gov website only. There are loads of sites wanting money for the same thing you will do. - enter information.

Gov site you may court fee or 550 (this is standard for all divorces as of when I did it anyway) but no more.

I'd personally be wary of online sites claiming to write a consent order for you though some swear by them

Ok thank you @bigarsebelinda I have just been looking at the government web site. Yes it did say £550.

I will give a few solicitors a call & ask about the consent order
