How many nights a year is EOW, 1 mid-week night & 50% of school holidays

Trying to work this out for CMS purposes, as it's the proposed pattern I am suggesting as part of separation.

Does anyone have this pattern in place & know what option I would select on the CMS website?

Is it two nights at the weekend? State school holidays?

Are you wanting to use the child maintenance calculator as it only goes up to more than 3 nights a week when calculating payment so it’s more than 175 nights a year.

Obviously if you are using another method then what @lasangoles said.

School hols are usually 13 weeks, so half is 6.5 = 45 nights pa.

1 mid-week, presumably every week except the holidays = 39 nights pa.

EOW (Fri, Sat, Sun or Fri, Sat or just Sat) again for 1/2 of the 39 weeks = 58 or 39 or 19 depending of how many nights the weekend is)

Add them up 45 + 39 + (58 or 39 or 19) then ÷ 365 x 7 gives you the average nights per week

Ah yes, sorry. Your have to deduct the number of weeks re school holidays from the first part of my post. Doh! Brain fart.

Actually I don’t think that’s right I think it’s 52 x 2 nights then 50% of the school holidays minus the regular nights.

School is 13 weeks X 3..
So you have one lot left of 13 weeks times 5 school days.......so 65days of M to F...
Half this is 32.5 days
Every other weekend is dependent on the days...
So add 26 days for every day he has them over a weekend.
And add 39 nights in as well for term time sleep overs...
So say. He does this...
They sleep at his 32 nights over holidays
Then every school nights Wednesday 39 .nights..
Plus he has them EO Saturday nights 26...
That's 97 nights.
If he does Sunday as well. Another 26 nights....so 123 nights.

1 mid week night, every week, is 52 nights

EOW is 26 nights if they stay 1 night, 52 nights if they stay 2 nights, 78 nights if they stay for 3 nights. Be aware (for example) that if even pick up is after dinner on Friday night and return is breakfast on Sunday, that would count as 2 nights for CMS, even though the DC are only in the care of that parent for one day.

State schools are open for 195 days a year. It's probably best for clarity to specify the number of days each holiday or the total for the year rather than "50%" of the holidays e.g. If the Christmas holidays are 2 weeks, specify 5 days at Christmas following or preceding the normal EOW to make a total of 1 week. Don't accidentally double count the EOW days during the holiday eg if your ex has them for 3 weeks out of 6 during the summer holidays, that is 21 days but there would be 2 normal EOW weekends so you need to deduct those nights from the 21 days.

I know what he gets paid monthly & his gross salary annually. Doesn't take much to confuse me

Maybe you should mark it out in a diary to be sure.

We do that routine with DHs kids and for CMS purposes it is 2-3 nights a week. Gross salary annually is fine (there's an option for annual pay) but remember to deduct pension off first

The choices on the CMS website are:

2-3 nights a week (104-155 a year)

3 nights (156-174 a year)

Or more than 175 a year (3 nights)

@Notmydaughteryoubitch - thanks - that works out as maintenance of £525 a month as he is a high earner who barely engages with his children but wants 50/50 to avoid maintenance

At 3 nights a week he would be paying £473 & at 3+ it would be £416.

That seems a lot? I wasn't expecting that.

Ok, it looks like 2-3 days a week.

But how do I find out what his gross pay after pension is? I only know what he gets paid after tax & pension.

Can't you just ask him to provide you with an up to date payslip? If he refuses explain if you go through CMS rather then arrange privately he'll end up basically admin fee too so better for him to share the info up front so you can agree an amount privately. Or ask him to do the calculation and share it with you, there is a way of sharing the full details of every answer and the final calculation at the end.

What job does he do? Google the company etc to see pension contributions.

Otherwise just go through CMS it’s a £20 set up fee and they take their info directly from HMRC so you’d not need to find out the info.

If the EOW is Fri to Mon am, then it works out at about 150 nights a year - a relative of mine had this arrangement.

Re: pay, ask him to do the calculation and send you the info. If it's a reasonable sum of money and seems broadly correct, personally I'd accept it to maintain goodwill, rather than going to CMS for what would work out to be an extra £10 a month or whatever. But obviously if it appears to be miles off you may want to go via CMS!

I'd make it around 2.8 days a week I er the year?

Please make sure he is responsible for all costs during that time- my friend is in a similar position but still expected to cover 100% of clothing/pocket money etc costs despite contact being 60:40.
