The practicalities - getting my ducks in a row

I'm in the process of doing my research and getting my ducks in a row. I need some advice though.

I have done a few benefits calculators and they come up with wildly differing amounts, from £200 to £600 a month. I earn £2550 take home a month, with no other benefits apart from child allowance. Rental will be between £650 and £700. Does anyone have any experience, or can point me in the right direction.

My husband has told me he would be able to buy me out. What are my rights? If I were to move out, my name would be on the mortgage until we could get that sorted, and I couldn't afford to pay anything out on this house plus bills on a new one. What do I need to consider in this situation.

Working on speaking to solicitor, but would really value any similar experiences!

I suggest you use the turn2us calculator that one was accurate for me. I earn roughly £1250

I have 2 children one with additional needs so get a disability premium on my UC. And get roughly £700 a month UC. There is no Housing element I have a mortgage. And they also cover 85% of my child care costs. So that helps.

Good luck.

Is this towards child care?
What have the benefits calculator suggested you’d be entitled to? Which benefit?

One complication is that if you get a lump sum from the house you will likely not to eligible for benefits anymore as it will put you over the savings limit. Are you going to buy another place?

JustBeingMoi · 22/05/2020 23:32

@CayrolBaaaskin we have a mortgage and I think I would have to use any money that I have to pay off any debts that we have in our name, so I think perhaps I wouldn't unfortunately or thankfully. I will also need to buy a lot to start again. Unfortunately buying a house again looks very unlikely for a number of years now.

@unicornsarereal72 thank you. I went on again and I think I was putting the wrong figures in in at the time, because it looks like 600 is closer to the figure which is much less scary than 200 or nothing.

Have you looked at shared buying and renting, this is a way of getting a more secure rental through social housing with housing associations

You need to apply for social housing in your area first, then approach the HA to see what properties they have for sale etc

Maybe give you more security than renting from a private landlord

CayrolBaaaskin · 23/05/2020 11:18

That sounds good op but I just wanted to highlight that if you have £16,000 in savings (after house sale) you wouldn’t be entitled to any benefits.

Good luck

Anything over £6k then it affects the amount you are entitled too. ( universal credits)
