Pension offsetting advice ple

Hi, had anyone successfully offsetted theirs or husband pension?
I've just found out that my stbx public sector CE value is £300,000.
I have no idea if this a decent figure and would be interested in hearing if anyone has negotiated to have more equity in house and for partner to keep pension without splitting.
Obviously, I can get solicitor advice but TBH, this forum is so knowledgeable, I would be grateful for any extra advice.
Thanks!

It’s quite common to trade off pension for equity
You need the cetv and it’s not a 1:1- ie £50k more equity does not equal £50k pension
Do you have a pension also ?

Hi, thanks for the reply.
I have a tiny (15 k CE) personal pension.
I am waiting for a actuary report as solicitor recommendation due to public sector pension, but I'd like an heads up or advice before that comes so I'm armed!

The trade off will depend on a lot of factors, not just the current CETV but also your relative ability to build on it and how long you each have to retirement.

Obviously a good pension that is 30 years off doesn't give you a deposit for a house now and he will need to be adequately housed. What constitutes adequate depends on how many kids he is expecting to have at least some of the time, house prices and rents locally and his expectations of long term earnings for both of you.
Way too many factors for us to analyse without much info.

I've elected to receive a portion of my exh's pension at retirement because it's worth so much money and splitting it now is worse for me (any private scheme i put it into is inferior. The pension people do it for us and I simply receive a payment into my bank account each month. I'm taking 60% of equity delayed until kids finish university.

I appreciate your replies.
We are both in our 50's and all four children are over 18 although two are uni age, one just starting.
I do work but earn a quarter of his salary.
Ex lives with girlfriend and although I appreciate he is entitled to be housed, I would hope my need would be seen as greater in short term.
Otter71, do you know how much notice a DJ will take of actuary analysis and recommendations?
Okie, presumably this counts as an income for you? Or does it?! Really interested in how you have negotiated that. So much to think about and just feel I don't know enough about how it all works!
