Corona lockdown: seeing other parent

Meeeh · 23/03/2020 20:45

So, from tonight, they can’t see the other parent for three weeks?!

Wtaf is the plan here? The kids are meant to swap this week, already stressing as ex is a keyworker.

I was goingto come on and ask the same!

lastburritos · 23/03/2020 20:52

I was wondering this too

LookingForward6 · 23/03/2020 20:56

Also wondering as STBEXH also a key worker and I’m worried about who he’s in contact with, kids due to go fri night but he’s asked for them from weds night to help me work from home (although I’m fine with the kids here). Any family lawyers out there?

Meeeh · 23/03/2020 21:04

I doubt they would know - this is unprecedented.

We're having this same conversation. If both houses are "staying home", i don't see an issue with my 2 daughters moving between the 2 houses ?? But is that ok ?

AustinRd · 23/03/2020 21:08

I spoke with my solicitor today as my final hearing has been adjourned due to COVID-19,Their view was if lockdown happened then contact would not take place but as this is unprecedented they didn’t know for sure. It’s a lose lose but as parents our children’s safety comes first. A few weeks without contact is far better than losing a parent or child Stay safe all x

SomeonesRealName · 23/03/2020 21:17

Apparently in Spain where they have been on lockdown child contact arrangements have been maintained. Worried about this too.

JaggySplinter · 23/03/2020 21:45

It's really vague in the UK announcement.

Austria directly told people that children stayed with the resident parent and contact with NRP stopped. Spain and Italy continued as normal with children changing houses.

AustinRd · 23/03/2020 23:21

Advice now is travel to NRP will be seen as “essential travel” and contact should proceed as normal where a court order exists. Clearly on the understanding that NRP complies with govt directive and stays at home once collected

Meeeh · 23/03/2020 23:28

What advice is this AustinRd?! Where did you get this from and can you post a link?

www.gov.uk/government/publications/full-guidance-on-staying-at-home-and-away-from-others/full-guidance-on-staying-at-home-and-away-from-others

Scroll right to the bottom and there’s footnote

  1. Where applicable, this includes moving children under 18 between their parents’ homes.
LochJessMonster · 24/03/2020 00:14

Any medical need, or to provide care or to help a vulnerable person. 1

Bre4kingDad · 24/03/2020 00:15

Please share a link on this, I’m gutted at the moment

LochJessMonster · 24/03/2020 00:17

Section 1 of the guidance, giving the 4 reasons to leave the house:

Any medical need, or to provide care or to help a vulnerable person. 1

Footnote right at the bottom of the page:

  1. Where applicable, this includes moving children under 18 between their parents’ homes.

I had the same link as PP. thx

iamthrough · 24/03/2020 08:51

Micheal Gove has been on Breakfast TV this morning and confirmed children under 18 of separated families can still move between homes. I guess everyone will have to make a decision on this - if one parent is sharing a house with an elderly or vulnerable relative that would change your decision - or if one parent is a NHS keyworker for example that my mean that parent doesn't see their child for a short period. Everyone's circumstances are different and I think this is a time when common sense needs to be applied by the bucketful.

NorthernSpirit · 24/03/2020 09:28

The government, cafcass and the legal community are now very clear on this.

Children under 18 are able to move between homes - not up to you to interpret.

Cookie5000 · 24/03/2020 11:39

If you work in a critical sector outlined in this guidance, or your child has been identified as vulnerable, you can continue to take your children to school. Where parents do not live in the same household, children under 18 can be moved between their parents’ homes.

Think that this refers to critical or key workers who need someone to look after the children as an alternative to school , not the general population.

Meeeh · 24/03/2020 12:53

@Cookie5000 those are two separate issues.

My understanding from the links is that ALL children with parents living apart can be moved.

OP posts:
auberJohn · 24/03/2020 13:23

@cookie5000, then you'll have to correct Cabinet Office Minister Michael Gove and the publishers of the official UK position on staying at home - COVID19 guidelines - specifically, you'll have to ask them to delete the following statement:

"Where parents do not live in the same household, children under 18 can be moved between their parents’ homes"

The judiciary has finally clarified matters here.
