Stat Dec or deed poll

Recently separated and want to revert to my maiden name. Googling seems to throw up conflicting results as to which method is best and how to go about it. I contacted a local solicitor who quoted £150 plus vat for a stat Dec, seems a bit steep.
Anyone done this and have any advice?

I’m still married but have reverted to maiden name. So far bank, professional body, HMRC and driving licence have all been happy with a free change of name signed & witnessed certificate I found on the internet!

You can just switch back, no need for deed polls and solicitors! Just tell everyone. Banks will ask to see divorce papers (I took along my original birth certificate too). Same for passports and driving license. Inform utilities and car insurance... no ID required there. For work, send divorce papers and covering letter to HR. Job done! May only cost a few stamps.

Ooh thanks. I do feel a bit peeved at having to pay to have the name I had when I was born!

@numbermonkey can you recall which website you used?

I can’t sorry, I just googled for a free certificate, downloaded it and filled it in! The bank wanted to see my marriage certificate to support it but that was it!

But this is from GOV.UK www.gov.uk/change-name-deed-poll/make-an-adult-deed-poll

Update in case this may be of use to anyone else. I found a name change stat dec template on the internet, typed it up including my names, printed it off. Popped into local solicitors to get it signed on oath which just involved me saying, "I, Brettanderson'scheekbones, relinquish etc etc", then the solicitor signed it. Paid five quid and off I went a NEW WOMAN! Easy peasy.

Following this, does anyone know how many certificates you need, is it one for each item (1 for driving licence, one for bank etc) or is it just use one for all. TIA

I used the same one. Went to the bank first and they changed everything there and then. Then posted it off with driving licence to get that changed. Car insurance and utilities etc I told over the phone and it was changed without seeing my divorce papers.
