Working Part Time & Universal Credit

I’m claiming universal credit now, not for housing just living costs. If I’m only working 18 hours per week am I going to be encouraged to take up any other job that is full time hours? I’m thinking that they may force me to do this or stop my universal credit completely?
I thought it might be good to have some warning if this is the case!

They will certainly try to get you to work more hours, yes. There is a risk of sanctions not necessarily the full amount if you don't try.

It’s worth adding that the background behind only working those hours will make a huge difference too. Severe diagnosed MH conditions impacting daily life is very different to CBA.

Depends if you have children or health conditions

stucknoue · 19/11/2019 23:06

Unless you have dc under 5 or a health condition you are expected to work full time (school hours only if dc are under 12). Why would you not?

It's at least the equivalent of 35 hours a week at the minimum wage, so not necessarily full time (as far as I understand it, anyway).

(I'm 22 hours but earn full time minimum wage. Wasn't planned like that, it's just how it's worked out)
