Help - cost of house valuation to support settlement?

I am just at the start of the whole divorce journey - I am getting on with the Form E and as a part of this process I called a local surveyor for a house valuation. He quoted me close to £2K - is this really the cost???? I expected something in the region of £500-600 - am I being completely naive here? We are going to be agreeing finances between the two of us, so no need for mediator and definitely no court, so I am not sure if I am asking for the right type of survey?
We are in Surrey so I would expect the London premium but is this really the kind of cost i need to cover in addition to massive legal costs? Thanks for any help/tips!

I got free ones from estate agents. Just told them getting divorced didn't know whether to sell or keep.

Thank you - I will start with that and then see if i need something more official as the process moves along...

This is all very complicated! Confused

Estate agent’s valuation should do. You need three and pick the average.

whatohwhattodo · 23/10/2019 15:23

Shouldn't need anything more. I did 3. The form e days they need to be within 6 months so keep an eye that you get form completed unlike my ex who didn't get round to doing it and I needed to get another one.

I did get solicitor to check mine over and submit although we agreed separately. Also as a word of warning you cannot submit form e until nisi back and mine took ages so don't put that off either as I did!

One other thing....there is a f
You tube video that gives you guidance to complete it.

Put every expense you can think of in your budget - children's clothes, haircuts, school trips etc etc.

Thank you for that tip - my solicitor provided a really helpful 'income calculator' sreadsheet that lists just about any household payment/personal need, so I think I am almost there, just working on the supporting documentation now.

RiseAgain, I don't suppose you could share the things the spreadsheet lists by any chance? Am about to complete my Form E and am really worried I'm going to miss things out.

@whatohwhattodo Also as a word of warning you cannot submit form e until nisi back -
I'm a little confused about this. I'm looking to go to mediation with xh and decree nisi is just about to be applied for (long story short he did already apply but they closed the court and moved the case and lost the application so he needs to resubmit it) and I've been told its a 12 week lead time so won't get anything back till February at a guess. Sure I can start mediation before this? Isn't it just for court applications you'd have to wait?

whatohwhattodo · 31/10/2019 16:37

@AllInTentsWithPorpoises

I probably should have said consent order.

You can do medication I think and complete form e but I could not send the consent order to the court until the nisi was granted. I think you had to put the date on consent form.

AllInTentsWithPorpoises · 31/10/2019 16:38

That makes sense. I was getting a little worried there! Its all been taking sooooooo much longer than I'd hoped for as xh is a dickweed but if I had to wait until next year for mediation I might go mad!

whatohwhattodo · 31/10/2019 18:59

It seems to be taking just as long after being sent in. Nisi took about 5 months. Consent order is 12 weeks but their received date seems to be about 3 weeks after I posted it........I think they have a large pile.

My ex is getting more and more agitated as he is desperate for cash. He was basically telling me I was lying and he was going to appoint a solicitor - said he can do but it's all with the court so they couldn't tell him anything I couldn't.
