Applying for Absolute before Consent order

hi, my solicitor has recommended I apply for my absolute before my consent order is approved. I'm not going for pensions etc. Can anyone tell me the advantages and disadvantages of not waiting?

Are you dividing any assets like property?

yes just property

Why have they recommended this? I’ve not heard of that before

Then look up stamp duty if that's applicable to you.

I was going to ask the same question OP. I am in exactly the same position. Agreed finances between us, I am taking on the house. We are leaving pensions alone.

Get Consent order approved first.

I got my absolute before the financial order. You only have to wait if you are sharing pensions due to you not being able to get your share if the pension holder dies. Getting the absolute first does not affect any other assets. I got my absolute over 2 years before the Financial Order, being divorced had no impact,

Thanks for the replies, its put my mind at ease about applying for the absolute before finances. With regards to stamp duty it will be a transfer of marital assets and my only residence so its excluded from Stamp duty. to hear others have applied before the consent order is reassuring.
