Representation - quick question

Quick question which I am hoping someone can shed some light on.

Phoning a local solicitor to represent me but they have said my husband's name comes up so there may be a conflict. Does it mean because we used them for our house purchase they won't represent me or that he has approached them already?

Thanks

It just means he has been a client of some type in the past. Only they and he know in what context. Plenty of other solicitors.

It's very likely to be that reason. If a firm has represented a married couple for as you mention Conveyancing then it can be awkward for the firm to act for just one person in a divorce as ther could be a confilct of interest however if your spouse wants you or himself to be represetned by that firm the other spouse can, I believe, confirm in writing/email that they are aware of the situation and have no objection. If the conveyancing matter was a fair time ago, say 5 years ago, the conflict is not current as such. If one of you was already a client of the firm prior to the conveyancing then that person can usually continue to use that firm. Hope this makes sense.
