Maintenance

My 17yr son lives and works with his Dad on an apprenticeship. I give his Dad maintenance every month and give my son money too. When he is 18 can I choose to just give my son money by law or do I have to pay maintenance to his Dad until he is 20 as his is on an apprenticeship which counts as full time education?

If your child needs a home until he finishes his apprenticeship and that home is being provided by his father, then give the father a contribution to the cost of providing the home for your child.

I thought If it’s a paid apprenticeship no money is due to his father despite him being 17 because he will no longer receive child benefit? (Could be wrong so check). If that is the case, i would personally pay towards just the 18 year old but encourage him to give some to his dad as keep/rent. Teach him about finances and contributing to the household he is part of. If you discover he doesn’t do this, send a sum to his dad but give him the opportunity first
