"Broken home"

Anybody hate this term? I do. It's not used so much now but I still do hear it. 😠
My home was far more broken when my boys and I were living with my vile ex-husband than it is now we're a family with an amazing stepdad as part of it.

It’s horrible. My home was far more broken when my parents were giving each other the silent treatment and leaving shitty notes on the kettle. My DSC home was far more broken before their parents divorced and they’ve said how much better life is now mum’s no longer shouting at dad.

I don’t know why people still use it. Children need happy parents modelling functional healthy behaviour more than parents who stay together unhappy for the wrong reasons. But on here when you say that there’s always a contingent saying well you would say that if your parents are divorced or you’re a step parent.

I’m glad you and your children are happier now Smile

@AnneLovesGilbert
Thank you. It's really reassuring to hear from adults who say they were happier when parents separated than if they'd have stayed together.
My own mum was raised by just her dad (her mum walked out on them for another man leaving him with five kids to raise) and she always says it was better when it was just her dad. She adored him. He was a wonderful man and a great support to me when I divorced. He married again in his 70s 😊

My mum’s parents hated each other and stayed together “for her”. I will always be grateful she had the strength to leave “for us” and despite a tricky divorce my parents get on famously these days - we all spent Christmas together last year, mum, dad and step mum! They’re all good people, my parents are just far better friends than they were husband and wife. We have a happy family now, it wouldn’t have been possible if they’d been more concerned with anyone branding ours a broken home than doing that we ALL needed for us to grow up with a mum and dad who coparented respectfully, putting us first.
