The ex moved out last year to move in with the other woman after I basically told him I knew he'd been sleeping with someone else. I live in the flat we bought together. I'm unable to work due to my health and I'm on universal credit. He works full time and she also works. She has put her house on the market and he is now trying to force me to sell my home. Depending on who he talks to, he is pretending that they are not in a relationship. He is seeking legal advice to see if he can force me and is also threatening to file for bankruptcy.
Can he force me to sell and how can I afford to divorce him?

Others are right to think about the value of any pension -- public sector pensions can be in the hundreds of thousands, which could be enough to offset against housing equity, Also savings, debts. If his earnings are high, then rare but possibly spousal support for a time.
It may not be possible in your condition, but another income maximisation strategy could be a lodger, depending on flat's size.

As others have said get advice from a lawyer (it will cost but they may be able to defer payments until you get a settlement). You could look at other ways to purchase such as shared ownership schemes (you don't always have to be a first time buyer), could one of your DC help you as a guarantor or co buyer?
My friend who was in a similar situation was paying her LL rent in 6 month upfront chunks but is so sad that she won't be able to pass on money to her children and was dreading being a life renter especially when her money would run out. However now she is 58 she has found a cheaper although very small flat in an over 55's only development.
