2 years separation with 5 months living in the same house

Hi all,

My ex and I are currently planning to start the divorce on the grounds of the 2 year separation. We officially decided relationship is over in Feb 2016 and he moved out in July 2016. We stayed in the same house due to financial constraints. We had separate bedrooms, didn't eat or socialise together. However, at the time we still had a joint account (which was later closed).

We have no children and nothing that ties us financially. We agree on dates and the whole thing is amicable.

If we still had that joint account, how do we prove we actually were separated? How are you requested to prove that the relationship broke down if you actually lived under the same roof for a time?

Another thing, when he moved out he stayed with his mates for a long time and doesn't have an official proof of address. However, I do have a tenancy agreement with a new roommate from August 2016.

I'd wait until July but he's planning to move countries towards the end of the year so we'd like to get this sorted sooner rather than later.

Thanks so much in advance!

Whoever petitions will need to answer truthfully questions like

Did you do laundry or dishes for each other.
Did you eat together or did you cook for each other
Did you share food (helping yourself from the communal milk bottle is bad, you have to live like angry skint students.)
Did you clean each other's mess

The bank account is a red herring, Don't worry about that.

Safest is to wait till July. If the early petition fails you have to pay a second £550 court fee. Plus extra to get the failed petition dismissed.
