Paying for court costs

Can anyone clear up some confusion for me? My Nisi went to court last month and STBXH was ordered to pay the costs. My solicitor advised me that it was £950+VAT (£1140) + £550 for the court fee. I've asked STBXH for this and he hit the roof as his solicitor hadn't advised him he was liable for this. Early on in the proceedings I seem to remember he had offered £100 towards the costs and stated that he didn't know what the costs would be and I don't think this was ever followed up letting him know, however I rejected his £100 and instructed my solicitor to go for the full amount.
Anyway, I wanted to email him a link stating that as he is "at fault" due to his adultery that is why they have ruled in my favour, but all I can find is articles saying he has to pay the court fees of £550. I don't know where the £950 has come from (and solicitor not around this afternoon to ask). Does anyone have any idea? Things have been really difficult to get to this point and I don't want to battle for the £950 if he doesn't have to pay it, is he liable to pay for something if he didn't know the amount?
Thank you if you know.

So my ex alcoholic partner looks like he might be taking me to court to request more child access. How much am I looking at in the long run that this is going to cost me ? I’m really concerned about this as I literally have no savings. I don’t think I’m entitled to legal aid as I own my own home.
Stressing out ! Thank you

I'm probably reading this wrong but could the £950 + VAT be your solicitor's fees in submitting your divorce petition itself? If it is then it would be your cost since it is your solicitor? Maybe there was some cross communication in that your ex offered £100 towards the £550 court fees rather than the £950 + VAT?

Court fees are £550 ( just checked and it seems to be £593 now), plus extra £~£53 ish for approving a consent order (financial agreement). That’s using basic online process.Courts will charge more if you/him actually had a hearing…did the courts do anything other than simple approval of online submissions?

Ah sorry just read…the £950 plus vat is solicitors cost.
Tbh I’d hit the roof at that…wasted money! You could have done it online yourself.
But, if this included drawing up a legal consent order and submitting it to courts then that’s reasonable , little bit expensive if you had already given them a rough draft…
That’s the only bit you really must have a solicitor for, the consent order
If you’ve run up solicitor fees for stuff other than consent order, then it comes down to why you did that in terms of is it reasonable to expect him to pay. If it’s because he was belligerent, not cooperating and insisting on going through solicitors then fine he pays. If you chose to use for something that was actually straight forward to do yourself- then no I don’t really see you could claim that . Unfortunately anything financial in divorce is not affected by how badly he treated you.
