Can I get a mortgage using child maintenance?

Has anybody had success getting a mortgage when only income is child maintenance? I want to borrow about 50% of value of the house I hope to buy. I have a court order plus 4 years of bank statements showing he pays every month. Any lenders look favourably on this? Thanks so much.

Yes you might be able to as its a regular income. My friend was offered a mortgage using his dla payments, although he never went ahead with it. Maybe it wasn't enough really to buy.

Some people are being harsh, OP. I get what you're saying. Better the money is used as an investment which the Dc will benefit from, both in the present and in the long term, rather than it being lost in rent.

Not sure if your only income is child maintenance. But I did get one using my part time income, tax credits and child maintenance. I used a financial advisor who found me a mortgage that had no revaluation fees and a fixed rate for five years. It involved lots of paper work but was def worth it in the end. But I do think you might struggle to find one if you have no other income at all.

That, s reassuring julia our mortgage is him the Halifax and I am seriously considering splitting with (d) h.
I have worked out that child benefit and chikd tax credits and my very small income would cover living expenses. Maintenance will pay mortgage in full!

I think it would be difficult if you had no income other than child maintenance. But you could make an appointment with a mortgage advisor. If the maintenance supplemented your income then it would be taken into account.

Giggle star...that's the most bizarre thing I've read on MN for a long time.

A parent using maintenance money to pay a mortgage is not what it's meant for?! Huh??

Better call my ex and own up that I just took my dd's away for half term...whoops. They had treats and fun...guess that was the wrong way to spend theirs intensive yeah?
