Is it actually possible to "take him to the cleaners" for adultery?

Just out of curiosity - is this a myth?

Or, if your H had an affair, can you make him pay financially?

No it's a myth- behaviour is only taken into account in determining financial settlement in very rare circumstances- afaik adultery is not one of those instances.

Conduct is only taken into account in divorce settlements when it is so bad that it would be unfair to ignore it eg attempted murder to try and prevent a spouse's claim to financial provision.

Divorce settlements are just an exercise in number crunching and not being able to separate the emotions from the practicalities just hurts the wallet. Taking a spouse to the cleaners usually results in expensive litigation so it's counter productive.

It's often said the best revenge is to look after yourself and seem to be happy rather than being bitter and feed an ex-spouse's ego. Wink

No, adultery won't make any difference to the financial settlement. It is almost imposible to take a spouse to the clearners.

Any attempt to take an ex to the cleaners will result in a large legal bill. Trust me. My ex tried it and it cost her thousands. Unfortunately it also cost me a fair bit, although only about half the amount she ended up paying her solicitor and barrister.
