Do I need a pre-nup for this?

Hi,

my boyfriend and I are thinking about getting married next year but I would like to protect myself from any liabilities in case my boyfriends limited companies go bankrupt etc. I have some assets and I do not want to be financially responsible .

Is there a legal document that we both could sign before getting married to protect me in such a situation? It would also be in my boyfriends interest who comes from a wealthier family than me so it is not only for me.

Thanks.

If the companies are limited then you'll be fine.Any losses belong to the company, hence 'limited'.

Even if it isn't a limited company, and he's a sole trader, you won't be liable for his debts. Any jointly owned property would be fair game to his creditors, but only to the extent of his interest.

I suspect the company limitation protects you but I'd talk to a lawyer. THinking " maybe I need at pre nup" probably means you do- or at least decent advice
