Hi there..
Is there anyone here who can offer some advice on divorce in Canada? Is there such a thing as the 2 year separation like in the UK?

My DP was married to a Canadian, marriage took place there then they moved to Northern Ireland. They filed separation a few years later. After 2 years he was granted a divorce...not sure if that helps. Probably best to seek advice, we did...whole process cost just short of £100.

I'm married to a Canadian, living in British Columbia, and filed for divorce last week. In Canada, you only need to be separated for one year before you can get a no-fault divorce...unless you can get proof of adultery.
The initial Notce of Family Claim form can be filed before the 1 yr mark, followed up with the rest of the affidavits after. I've learnt a lot about the divorce process as I'm doing it myself to save lawyer fees (who wants to pay $3,000 for someone else to fill in the forms!) We've already agreed parenting and separation agreements so that makes the actual divorce a relatively straighforward administrative process with a $300 fee.
Each province varies a little in process I think, but its all done through Supreme Court rather than Provincial Court so I assume it would be pretty similar across the country. There is lots of information online to help out.

No fault divorce after one year... hmm.... Think I'll look into this and do it myself too!!! What steps did you take first?
