Hi I lost weight after being told I’m pre type 2 , whilst I’ve followed healthy eating I’ve put on weight . Is there a way to get tested again myself and do any of you use / recommend blood sugar tester/ devices ?

You can buy monitors that will tell you your blood glucose reading at any one moment in time, although unless you understand how readings can fluctuate according to when and what you’ve eaten, it might not be much use.

You can buy HBA1C home tests, which give you an overall look at your BG levels over the past 3 months (weighted more towards the last month though). The tests are accurate enough to give you an idea of where you are.

Did your GP not mention a repeat test? It would be better to get it done there, especially if you are healthy eating but have gained weight. There may be something else going on.

If you are prediabetic then there is little point self testing as it gives only a spot reading and can be misleading. BG will also fluctuate in non diabetics depending on food, hydration, illness, exercise, time of day. Your gp should retest hbac1 in 6/12 months.

You could also consider going back to your GP and getting tested again, just to check in and see where things are at. It can be really helpful to have that clarity while you work on your habits and weight loss journey.

You could try a CGM like the Libre or Dexcom which will give you an idea of how your body responds to different foods and can give you an idea of what your HbA1C levels are.
Just remember that HbA1C is a reflection of your average blood sugars over the last 2 - 3 months so may not take into account any lifestyle changes you've made.
