Prediabetic Tips

I was diagnosed as prediabetic in May of this year and advised to switch to Brown rice and pasta to reduce blood sugar. I have done this along with giving up alcohol and sugar in coffee and reducing chocolate and bread. I am only eating blueberries and raspberries fruit wise. What tips do you have for reducing blood sugar but still being able to enjoy your food and not feel hungry?

If you are up for a bit of a journey take a look at Dr Unwin talking at the PHC on YouTube, he is UK based GP who is attempting to tackle diabetes through lifestyle interventions.
His advice is very moderate and easy to follow, basically a whole foods diet with no processed foods and minimal carbohydrates, but you have to face the fact that all digestible carbohydrates are converted to sugar, and need to be reduced and or cut out.

If you are up for a more drastic approach take a look at Jason Fung, also a doctor, discussing how manage diabetes using intermittent fasting.
And more drastic still read the case against sugar by Gary Taubes.

Best wishes!

wow, I just watched the first episode of Dr Unwin talking at the PHC I had heard of the Norwood surgery through some of my own research.

To be honest, he has confirmed that the approach I decided to take when getting diagnosed three months ago was to cut out carbs, sugar and alcohol. I eat lots of fish, meat, beans and lentils with veg etc and it works for me. At the moment on my GCM I am in the five's a few hours after eating, I'll watch episode 2 re the all important maintenance phase.

I went to a DESMOND course and I had a call with a dietician via GP and I am quite pissed off that they keep recommending to eat wholemeal toast and complex carbs, I almost think its a conspiracy thing to keep you stuck where you are and have to take drugs. I'll try my low carb approach for another 3 months get some blood tests and decide whether to take medication or not, I cant believe they push medication on you straight away.

To the OP, if you watch this video you'll see that eating brown carbs doesn't help too much.
