Looking for advice.

Every year my kid does trick or treating he goes low from walking around, like constantly low and while its great as he gets to eat all the sweets i know it annoys him.

This year were planning to have mcdonalds (hes having a friend over) before trick or treating which has a lot of fat. Am i best like dosing just unit or two? But i worry if i do that he will still go low with 1/2 units. 😂 if i dont dose obviously i risk the risk of him going sky high.

Has anyone cracked it and managed to keep them in range while knocking on doors please? i know my kid isnt the only one who struggles with this.
Dinner after isnt a option as we will have to take his friend home. Thanks. Hes mdi.

Scout leader angle rather than parent.

But done a few big activities with diabetic kids over the years. Generally the suggestions from the specialist nurse was for one off, and energy using stuff, err on high. A few hours higher than would usually want, but while doing something active, is generally much better than being low.

Each person is different, but the ‘this is once a year’ angle was emphasised. Possibly more so to the activity leader than it is in general discussions with parents on ongoing management.

I’d do a small dose of insulin, at most half of what you would normally do, and keep an eye on it. Aim for higher than normal bg and let them eat some of the treats if trend arrow says heading lower than you want. Then correct at home later on if staying too high
