Hello!!

After an adhoc discussion with some choir friends at rehearsal last night (one is a diabetic nurse) I think I have symptoms (thirst, dry mouth, increased toilet usage, tired, hunger headaches).

I went to my drs this morning and the nurse did a finger prick test and it came back 5.6. I hadn't eaten since 5pm the night before and this was 10.30 this morning. She has told me to get a blood test

My query is this:

I have been on self prescribed Mounjaro for a month. The difference I can feel has been amazing. But have I shot myself in the foot by taking this before getting a potential diagnosis? Will this have an impact on my blood test results? Bearing in mind getting a blood test in my area is like gold dust and the dates I am seeing are Feb 2026. I fear it will as I have no sugar cravings and my in take is lower.

41 year old female. Brother has type 2. Mother had type 2. High bmi.

Discuss it with your GP, they should know about any medication you are regularly taking anyway

Couldn't see a Dr. Only the nurse who also didn't read any of my notes, didn't weigh, no BP etc

And what did she say when you told her you are taking Mounjaro?

She had nothing to say, and said I need to book a blood test. I was in and out within 2/3 mins

I've come away with more questions and feel overwhelmed

So you did tell her you are taking this medication and asked about the impact of that on any results?

Yes. And she said book a blood test and we shall see. She very clearly didn't want to discuss this further.

Perhaps try phoning the Diabetes UK helpline :

Not sure what the issue is. Mounjaro is a treatment for diabetes. If you are pre-diabetic, the medication will help with that. If you also lose weight your HBA1C will fall anyway and you won’t be pre-diabetic anymore. The blood test will confirm if this is why you have the symptoms, or if something else is going on. It’s not like the medication will mask the blood test results.

Thank you.

The issue was that the nurse could've said your last sentence, but didn't. That was my concern
