Blood coming out of sensor

Libre2plussensor · 28/08/2025 00:10

I’m a Type II diabetic and decided to pay for the libre2plussensor, so that I can keep track of what my bloods are up to.

I’ve not long put it in place, and as I was putting my phone on it to connect to the app, I noticed blood coming through. I have attached a photo. (Might take awhile to come through) is this normal, what should I do? It costs a lot of money, so I don’t really want to take it off and replace it with another, else where. 🙁

I can’t comment on the libre as I am more familiar with the Dexcom but it should be fine. We’ve had bleeders before and they actually give very accurate readings

Contact the freestyle libre help email. I've had dodgy sensors before and they have always sent another one. Or it could be they tell you this one is just fine.

Sometimes you just hit a blood vessel. You’ve just been unlucky. It will probably read fine but you can always contact abbot and see if they’ll send you - replacement. Enjoy the tech - I think the libre is brilliant for showing how your body is processing carbs. You can learn a lot! .

Thank you all. Definitely must’ve hit a blood vessel. I panicked initially but it’s been fine since and I’ve put a patch over it, so I can go for a swim. 😁

It will be fine in the immediate future but may not last the two weeks…my son has had this a couple of times and both times the sensor has stopped working early. You may be lucky though…his were literally dribbling blood out.

I'm a type 1 and use them constantly. This happens every now and then and it's never affected the working of the sensor, for me.

I had one once that absolutely gushed blood out which was a bit of a worry but it did eventually stop. Quite often there's a bit of blood like in your photo but it usually stops fairly quickly. I just make sure I'm on a wipeable floor when I attach it and have a tissue to hand just in case.
