I have a GP apt tomorrow to confirm but the tests are all testing +.
I’m approx 4w/2d, current signs are cramping a lot, being absolutely exhausted and apparently as of just this afternoon, tender boobs. The cramping I’m reading is perfectly normal (it’s approx 1-2/10) but it is freaking me out slightly as I’m normally very lucky with period pain. I’m having to really try not to think the cramping is a bad sign.

I’ve been on semaglutide tablets (stopped) empagliflozin (stopped) and metformin (still on) but typically am usually diet controlled - I needed these after a period of extreme stress where my diet tanked. I’ve stopped these based on google and will resume if GP wishes. Last Hb1ac was only just raised so had come right down - was due a re-test in the next 4-6 ish weeks.

Am I going to be treated essentially like this is GD the whole way or will I have different monitoring? I don’t currently track my blood sugars daily - can I ask for freestyle libre? Finger pricking is going to be hideous 😢
I know it’s likely to be an individual thing but I guess I’m just looking for a rough idea of what to expect - another 38 ish weeks seems like a huge distance to make it to

TIA

In my area you would be referred to the diabetes ante natal clinic for care. I believe that you’ll be able to continue metformin throughout pregnancy but may also be put on insulin if this doesn’t control your blood sugar tightly enough.

many areas will prescribe continuous blood glucose monitors during pregnancy.

congratulations!

Don’t beat yourself about maintaining healthy blood sugar just manage things with your doctor as you go along . I’m type 2 and was exceptionally healthy through pregnancy but still needed to go onto insulin by 13 weeks. The body and hormone changes can have a big impact. I just got used to the routine and was on a very high dose by the time I had a scheduled CS at 37 weeks. I had a perfectly healthy little one and within 12 hours of giving birth was back off insulin and back on metformin. I can’t comment on care as went through the pregnancy overseas but wishing you all the best for a healthy pregnancy .

Thank you both, that’s reassuring
