Hi everyone,

I am a design engineer associated with Imperial College London and the Royal College of Art, and I’m starting new research focused on Type 1 diabetes. I myself have T1D.

However, I’d like to learn more about areas that others find challenging about diabetes. I am interested in hearing from parents/caregivers of children. Whether it’s related to technology, routines, or emotional well-being, your experiences can help shape new solutions that could make a big difference.

Some of my own challenges include spotting patterns in data and behaviours, as well as feeling burnout and low energy. I imagine that many challenges are felt by parents; even though you may not have T1D, you will have a unique perspective.

I’ll also leave a link to a 3-minute survey here. Your answers would help to reveal insights about diabetes-related problems that may currently be under-addressed (survey is anonymous & GDPR protected): https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeL0XmSxjjQO_W0sQce5IcoPqVD4r2rb2-W9Wcq132TK2XhTQ/viewform?usp=sf_link

If anyone is open to a longer discussion, please PM me, and I can set-up a brief chat.

I’ve done the survey twice. Once for myself as I am T1 and again for my son who is T1. I guess the biggest challenge for us is that diabetes means we often miss out on stuff, and plans often have to change to accommodate diabetes putting a spanner in the works. Two diabetics in one household is very stressful and I feel my mental health has suffered. My son is only 2 so too young for it to stress him out much but I hope he doesn’t start feeling the stress of it all when he’s older. I worry about the future a lot.
