I think I'm having reactive hypos

I've just been told I'm prediabetic. I'm slightly overweight and only 33. I'm feeling very overwhelmed. I instantly cut sugar and white carbs from my diet. I felt dizzy and not great.
I then got a sensor to track my sugars. My blood sugars aren't really high tbh so I confused why my blood test came back at prediabetic. Also when I eat in the evenings I keep getting spikes up and then it will just shoot down low. I think this is a reactive hypo. Is that right? I've read because I'm prediabetic my pancreas doesn't release enough insulin when I eat but then it goes crazy and releases too much.
How can I stop this from happening. Help!!!

I am not an expert but I wondered if it's worth exploring eating some complex carbs across the day. Not huge amounts but perhaps their slow release will help stabilise your blood sugar. Like whole meal bread or pasta?

Did you get any answers @Sugaraddict12? I’m in a similar position.

Small frequent low GI carb meals. Don’t miss meals and don’t eat sugary foods as the spikes cause the crashes.
that is the advice my dad was given some years ago and it works.
always carry a snack, eg nuts or an oat based cereal bar as you just count miss a meal or delay by too long.

this all makes so much sense, thank you. I have the same thing with my CGM, its fine during the day, then in the evening after dinner I am having these big drops to under 4. I think I need to have complex carbs in the evening to balance it all out

I had a repeat HbA1c and it’s come back as completely normal now. I was diagnosed as prediabetic in June with a level of 44 and now it’s 38. I’ve not made any drastic changes to anything in my diet. My exercise levels are the same as are other lifestyle factors so I’m not sure what caused the rise in the first place or indeed the big drop now.
