Haven't been feeling good for a few weeks now, might even be months, but work has been chaos and life very busy so just attributed the extreme tiredness and headaches to that, and possibly peri-menopause.

Had a flash of realisation on Thursday that a lot of my symptoms match to Diabetes:

  • Tired
  • headaches
  • thirsty
  • peeing a lot, waking up in the night and urgency with very little notice that I need to go.
  • achy all over
  • moody and snappy

Tried to get a Drs appt but stuck in the loop of calling in the morning and being told there are no appts so call back tomorrow, Tried Thursday and Friday and will try again Monday, Tuesday.......

Decided to buy a Freestyle Libre 2 as could get it on Amazon for next day delivery.

This is my readings since last night. Not looking good is it?

Pretty sure I'm diabetic

Bit of an update, had my first virtual diabetes clinic today and an appt with the GP.

HbA1c result has come back as 11% so they say I've been diabetic for a good while.
On the slow release insulin, 8 units in the morning and 8 units at dinner time, my glucose readings have been much better since starting and nurse feels like it might be possible to reduce the amount if I add in Metformin so I've started that today.

GP was a bit pissed off going through my patient record as she could see I'd never been offered a follow up after pregnancy for diabetes testing and she says I should have been told that was something I needed, she was also pissed that previous GPs had refused me treatment despite notes saying I'd asked for help with PCOS going back years, she says I should have been referred to Endocrinology 12 years ago, I was just always told I was too fat and needed to sort myself out.

gah how frustrating for the missed time. Glad you’ve got some treatment. Steady as we go!

do remember low fat yoghurts being absolutely awful for sugar.

Yep any of those things that are artificially low fat (cream, soft cheese etc) manage it by piling in the carbohydrate. Avoid them all.

Some good news today, lifestyle changes have helped to bring down my glucose readings enough that as of today no more insulin. Still taking the metformin but have been prescribed Mounjaro which hopefully will help me reduce my weight as well as regulating the blood sugar so they will be reviewing to see if I can reduce the metformin in a couple of weeks,

Have to say, the diabetes clinic have been fantastic, weekly calls, on top of my GP making sure they prescribe me everything I need, checking in on my Libre and sending messages with updates. They've been brilliant.

Just browsing some old threads because I think I’m about to start the same journey - really glad to see your positive update!

Did you start your Mounjaro? I’ve asked for something to help with my weight. GP was encouraging and has referred me to the Fat Doctor (my words, not hers!).

Hi @dollyboots yes, took my 3rd dose of mounjaro on Thursday and so far so good.

I've been able to completely stop the insulin and metformin, my blood sugar levels are within the 'normal' range (4-10 n/mol) 97% of the time according to my Libre and it's been great for reducing my appetite meaning I've been able to stick to a low carb/reasonable calorie diet much easier than it's ever been before.

I've not lost loads and loads of weight like you hear about with some people, first full week I lost 4lb, 2nd week 1lb and in the 3rd week now.

I'm only on lowest dose at the moment which is like an intro to get your body used to it so may lose quicker if they move me up to the next level, who knows.
