Can't get the fasting glucose under 5.4, if you can, how do you do it?

So I am trying to fast for 16hours as so many websites and studies say it's really beneficial for diabetes.

But despite not eating or drinking anything but water since dinner last night at 6:30pm I cannot get my fasting glucose under 5.4. I can barely get it under 6.

I have tried everything, exercise, green tea, lemon water, plain water, ice water, a piece of ham, a piece of cheese, nothing at all.

I just cannot get my fasting glucose down in the morning or at lunchtime. The only time it goes down is about 4:30pm. And will sometimes be 5.3/5.4. So once a day it's where it should be.

Does anyone have any tips?

I don't know a lot about this , but my husband had to take steps to keep him in the orange band and not slipping into red, so without taking any medications, these included, not eating as many carbs in evening, not just teh procesed carbs butr all carbs including simple carbs, recommended middle of day meal was when he had most carbs, drinking water before bed which you have already mentioned, 2 cups camomile tea before bed which he didn't try so no idea if it would have helped , no alcohol before bed, lots of sleep

Will preface this by saying I’m not medically qualified in any way so please check with a dr first

But do have PCOS (so likely insulin resistance) and was recommended the OTC supplement inositol (sometimes called “vitamin B8” although it is a sugar alcohol rather than a vitamin) to help regulate hormones and periods. I don’t understand fully how it works but (like most things with the body, it’s complex), but I gather it is a secondary messenger for insulin and modulates glucose metabolism.

In fertility treatment for PCOS, I understand it is often preferred over metformin.

It’s also found naturally in citrus fruit, cantaloupe, almond and peanut butter, and fibre-rich foods such as prunes, beans, brown rice etc.

I take a small amount with breakfast and dinner, and since taking I have started having regular periods (for the first time ever). The one I use is made by Health Leads and comes in a tub (I buy it off Amazon).

The OP doesn't say anything about being pregnant, just that she is pre-diabetic.

oh you're right. i apologise! from the numbers she is quoting assumed she was pregnant as they're the numbers recommended for GD. I spend a lot of time on the pregnancy forumn and got confused haha

But that’s completely different to type 2 so I’m sure OP wouldn’t suggest that…

The OP already did suggest I should be trying to reverse my T1 diabetes. They said:

If you are diabetic @PotatoFan aren't you trying to reverse it? Aren't you trying to see progress every month? Maybe a slight drop in your levels, but still dropping each month? You should be.

Do you thinks she might have assumed you have type 2?

I don’t think so, I hadn’t said anything about being type 2 I’d only spoken from my vast experience of using CGMs full time since they were first released, a type 2 wouldn’t have that experience typically it would naturally sound more like type 1.

I'm type 2 and on insulin and hard cgms for nearly 3 years so wouldn't assume that

I’m pre diabetic. I do 16:8 fasting, no eating after 7pm tops. I’m very slim, borderline underweight, generally plant based diet, no alcohol at all. If anything, I’m getting slightly worse but my GP isn’t concerned.

I look forward to your words of wisdom on how I reverse my T1 diabetes 🤣 @icantwaitforsummer

Have you tried cinammon yet? ;) though my T1D BF did not like that joke...
