mumoftwogirls2017 · 30/01/2024 21:11

Is there anyone who is diabetic and is about to start or currently doing the NHS Diabetes Path to Remission programme? Looking for others in the same situation to share with.

I had my prep meeting last week and about to start the meal replacements on Friday after 2nd meeting

Didn't want to read and run but just wanted to say that you can do this! Ive not done this program but I am in diabetes remission. I lost 5 stone four years ago and have been off all my meds for three years. I have a much healthier lifestyle and, although some of the weight has gone back on, I still have normal blood sugar levels ( i am working to take about two stone back off!)

mumoftwogirls2017 · 31/01/2024 09:14

Thank you for your lovey reply. I really want to try this for myself and my girls. I’m only 36 and want to be healthier and hopefully diabetic free. I’ve always had an issue with my weight since I was young and tried so many different ways. I know it’s going to be a tough process but fingers crossed I’ll get there

I am doing the remission programme at the moment. I'm 15 weeks in and would recommend it.
I've lost over 2 stone, and my HbA1c in early Jan was 45 without any meds so if I can keep it at this level for another 3 months I'll officially be in remission!
I cried when the box of sachets arrived and was absolutely dreading it... But it's not as hard as I thought it would be and it was really motivating to see my blood sugars coming down so quickly and the weight loss too.

mumoftwogirls2017 · 02/02/2024 07:19

@Firepile thats great to hear of someone’s success. I started this morning with the meal replacements. Fingers crossed I can do it

First few days are hard, but stick with it! Good luck.
(Make sure you take the stuff to prevent constipation. I didn't and it was horrendous...)

BigBoysDontCry · 02/02/2024 11:42

I'm not doing the programme but also wanted to give my support.

I went on a low carb diet and lost about 40lbs and if I get another good hba1c I'll also have diabetic marker removed. I wasn't overweight to start with and still got there. You'll feel so much better and still so young 😊

mumoftwogirls2017 · 02/02/2024 12:56

thank you. I have a pouch of fibre so Will make sure take it.

How has day 1 gone for you, @mumoftwogirls2017?

mumoftwogirls2017 · 03/02/2024 09:23

@Firepile not too bad. Hard with the temptation. Had 3 shakes and one soup. Managed to drink more than 2 half litres. Towards the end of the day I had a headache and went to bed early.
woke with one this morning though.
im guessing it’s the caffeine and sugar withdrawal that’s causing it.

OP posts:
Firepile · 03/02/2024 12:44

Headache probably is withdrawal from caffeine etc. Are you avoiding tea / coffee? (Tea is a struggle without milk for me, so drank herbal teas instead, and I found myself drinking black coffee - which I don't normally like - for its strong flavour!)
I found soups worked better for me than shakes. Spent a lot of time chopping a single raw mushroom / handful of spinach leaves / fresh chili or herbs into soups to make them more interesting!
I'm sure folk who preferred shakes have tips to relieve the monotony of eating the same things all the time, too!
It is really worth it, so hope you are able to hang in there...

mumoftwogirls2017 · 03/02/2024 16:43

@Firepile im still having tea in the morning. Can’t go without a hot drink I haven’t tried coffee, might give it a go and see.
I’ve used hot water for a chocolate shake to imagine it a hot chocolate lol.
ill get used to it I’m sure and like you said be worth it

Joining as I only have markers at the moment so not eligible for this but hoping to pick up some recipe ideas and more information.

good luck, I’m sure you can do it!

Hi there@mumoftwogirls2017! Just wondering how you're getting on? Are your family and pals supportive?

Hi @Firepile
im doing ok thanks. First week was hard. But lost 8lb. Some of that will be water loss. It’s been tough not to give into temptation.
got used to the shakes and like them but hate the soup. And I’m not the only one in the group.

not really have full support from husband. My eldest daughter who 10 been good and helping making my shakes.

Firepile · 11/02/2024 13:28

Well done on the weight loss so far - that's great! Glad to hear you've got a group around you: so important to be able to chat with others as you go through it!

Especially if your husband doesnt really get it. That must be v hard. Hopefully, he'll see why it was important for you to do this when you get to the other end and have improved your health and hopefully got into remission. It's great your 10 yo is helping you out with things.

Also, don't worry about not liking the soups, I reckon most people prefer one or the other. Things are enough of a challenge without forcing yourself to eat stuff you really don't like. Have you got enough shakes to see yourself through this phase?

(I've got spare shakes I can send you if you need some, if you want to DM me an address to send them to. I sourced additional soups from an alternative supplier so have some left)

mumoftwogirls2017 · 11/02/2024 16:37

The group meetings are really good and all 15 of us are on the same journey and can share ideas and that. The workbook we are using is really helpful too.

i should be getting a another voucher code on Friday for the next four weeks. Trouble is i only like the vanilla and chocolate shakes. It’s a shame there isn’t more of a choice online really.

what shakes do you have?

OP posts:
Firepile · 11/02/2024 20:41

I have counterweight ones. Chocolate, forest fruits and banana...

Firepile · 11/02/2024 20:42

I liked the exante ones for a change: I liked the mint chocolate ones and cherry bakewell... I've finished those!

mumoftwogirls2017 · 11/02/2024 22:50

I’m using altralife. They just taken over from the sounds of things. They only have 4 flavours and 2 soups.

OP posts:
Janwholovesjam · 15/07/2024 21:59

How did you get on with this OP?
I’ve just started and finding it really tough! I’m starving and they taste awful 😞
How long did you manage to stick to it and how long did it take to no longer be so hungry?
I’m amazed at how little there is on line about it. When I looked on Instagram I could find people who’d started it but they seemed to drop it fairly quick and I’m hoping this isn’t because it’s so hard people fail.
Please tell me it gets easier…

petuniasandpetals · 16/07/2024 19:13

I've just been offered the momenta one from my gp. It seems to be exante. I did Cambridge years ago (before diabetes) and lost over a stone.
I'm not massive but heavy round the belly and almost 60 and my markers just seem to be getting worse.
I hate soup and shakes and wondered if there were bars?
