I was diagnosed in June 2021. Done nothing to address it. Recently had bloods and have HBA1C (I think) of 85. Nurse is going to start me on metaformin.

I have lost my cooking mojo, having an awful time at work, single parent to tough kids and have depression. I have no energy at all for anything. That's physical and mental. I know diet and exercise will make me feel less shit.

How do you motivate yourself? I hardly eat and drink way too much.

Any suggestions? Easy breakfasts? I'm veggie and don't eat eggs!

What a fucking mess.

I think the biggest change will be reducing alcohol, it’s such a depressive and actually stops antidepressants working effectively. It’s also full of sugar. If you can reduce alcohol you will probably begin to feel miles better and will then feel less tired and more motivated and able to take better care of your diet. Just take it one day at a time instead of panicking about changes you need to make and feeling overwhelmed by it all.

OP I came across this lady on TikTok and I have just made her rosé beans and it was really quick, full of protein, low cal and delicious.

I did use reduced fat cream cheese because Asda subbed the regular one for low fat, I used nutritional yeast instead of Parmesan (I’m also veggie) and I served it with a slice of wholemeal toast to mop up the sauce -no butter. It was ready in no time and only 330 calories and I have a portion to heat up tomorrow. Maybe some new recipes will help you get your cooking mojo back?

Thank you! I feel so overwhelmed. You're bang on about the booze. I need a radical overhaul. I just wish I had someone to do it for me.

I'm vegan & am diabetic T2 also.
Sorry you're feeling so shit I get it. Basically you can have carbs but make that a smaller part of a meal. I'm ok with wholemeal pasta & rice, but not white. Also not bread, no type of bread is ok & nor is fruit for me.
Basically bulk up on the protein & vegetables so things like tofu, quarn sausages/ other vegan sausages, tvp, soya, all vegetables but not potatoes, not even sweet potato is ok for me.
Also you could go to b&m & get some slim noodles/rice. They're £1 a pack there (at least £2.50+ in the supermarket),

Get a sugar blood test machine from Amazon, about £20. You'll soon know what foods increase your levels by testing.

What booze are you drinking @FFSgetagripoldlady? Is there a switch you could make at first so that you reduce your intake or drink a lower alcohol version for a while. I appreciate though that lower alcohol might mean higher sugar.

I think the fact that you've posted means that you are willing to start to make some changes?

Does your Employer have an assistance programme? Ours will provide Counselling or maybe you could refer yourself to Talking Therapy?

Our local Council also runs a scheme for people who don't currently exercise so it might be worth seeing if yours does too? It's probably worth seeing if there's a Social Prescriber at your GPS too.

How about Peanut Butter & Banana Muffins for breakfast?

It's really hard because basically where do you start? But you've made a start with this thread so then your next step might be buying a blood sugar meter and before you know it you're on your way to taking some control and making small changes. You can do it, good luck.
