My T1D son has been using dexcom for a couple of weeks the G6.
First sensor was brilliant, it bled a little on inserting but gave us super correct numbers for the first 8 days. Then it started going haywire telling us his numbers were fine in reality he was having hypos and 2.4! Angry

So I pulled the sensor. Did everything right, left the transmitter off for a hour while he had a shower, cleaned the transmitter to a inch of its life etc.

Placed new sensor on and the numbers are ridiculous! Kept telling us he was going to hypo last night when he was sat in the 9s and steady. So I calibrated it.
This morning he's happily sat in the 6s, double arrows going up on 8.6 then keeps spitting random numbers out for the next hour with no arrows.

Is this normal? What is the point in CGMs if they are completely off?
DX in March and we finger poked up to this point, we only got the dexcom as his fingers were getting bad from the pokes and we needed peace of mind over night.
Anyone on the libre or G7 and find it's better? Diabetes team said we can swap if needs be (also find the G6 is HUGE on him as he's only small!) just not sure if I should wait it out and see if it gets better.

Dexcom is brilliant when it works, and so frustrating when it doesn't!

Are you aware of compression lows? If the sensor is somewhere that his weight presses down when say he leans on it, that can give false readings.

Similarly - how is he for drinking water? Any hint of dehydration can interfere with my Dexcom accuracy.

Some sensors are just rubbish and will take 24 hours to become accurate. Some are perfect right off the bat. Tonight I'm struggling with a shitty sensor that has been on for almost 48 hours and is still reading much higher than blood test so I keep dipping. The last couple of days have been a massive pain in the arse but I'm hoping the sensor will settle.

If you end up replacing a shit sensor always ring Dexcom to get it replaced. That will help you build a stockpile of spares which is always useful to have, and it is important for Dexcom to know how many of their sensors are crapping out, as it's a technology they are constantly trying to improve.

I would not recommend Libre as overall, Dexcom is more accurate and a better technology.

Also, it's better to avoid calibrating in the first 24 hours as the algorithm is still trying to settle.

And when calibrating in general, try to calibrate when you have a steady arrow (even if the actual number is way out of whack) and not while blood sugar is on the move up or down.

My son was only diagnosed in February he has a Dexcom.,he did have a few teething problems at first but they are supposed to be time delayed because you are getting a different reading than with a finger prick test it testes the interstitial fluids rather than blood its supposed to.be about 20 minutes behind the actusl.blood sugar reading I suppose if your son has recently had something to eat it could affect the readings ,maybe place it on a,different part of his body ?
My son has had his Dexcom since may and overall its been a God send and very reassuring.
